5 CBD Vape Starter Kits You Need to See (2023 Review)

Posted by Christian on 26th Apr 2023

Getting started with CBD vaping can be a little bit daunting, and even more so if you’ve never vaped at all. The temptation is there to go on a spending spree, and pick up every cute accessory you can find - only to ultimately realize that you didn’t need most of them to start with!

That’s why it makes sense to invest in a CBD oil vape pen starter kit. We have a variety of impressive starter kits for sale at CBDVapeJuice.net, which contain all the bits you need and none of the things that you don’t! We’ve got kits from Koi CBD, Vape Bright and, of course, our very own CBD Genesis.

We’ll be reviewing each of these kits in this guide, and also take a broader look at vaping and CBD. Both have been in the news a lot recently, so you’ve probably lots of questions. We’ve done our best to answer all of them right here. Let’s start by addressing the 2019 vaping crisis.

What are the health risks of vaping? What are the health risks of vaping?

After growing in popularity for several years, vaping hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons in 2019. An outbreak of vaping-related illnesses and deaths has given a lot of people second thoughts about vaping. But unfortunately, the media failed to report the story accurately.

Many mainstream outlets attempted to tar the entire vaping industry for these illnesses. But we now know, thanks to a study from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), America’s leading national public health institute, that the outbreak was caused by ‘bootlegged’ or illegal vape products.

A study analyzing the lung fluid of 29 patients found vitamin E acetate in all of them. Unfortunately, when inhaled, the sticky oil gets clogged in the lungs, causing serious respiratory problems. This ingredient should not be added to e-liquids, and never is by reputable vendors. Such illnesses have never been associated with legal vaping products, but that didn’t stop anti-vape forces from trying to make the industry look bad.

We’re not claiming that vaping is completely harmless. Many things in life can be dangerous, like drinking alcohol, consuming too much caffeine or sugar, and even riding a horse! But perspective is key. In comparison to smoking, vaping is 95% less harmful, according to Public Health England research. If you’re currently a smoker seeking a healthier lifestyle, switching to vaping is a positive step, and has the science to back it up.

Getting to know CBD

CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol, a hemp plant component with no psychoactive effects. CBD is a cannabinoid, putting it in the same family of compounds as THC, the intoxicating substance in marijuana. And it arguably has many of the benefits of cannabis, without making you stoned - a win-win unless you were hoping to take CBD for recreational reasons!

CBD products have achieved astounding popularity since the United States - and other countries - legalized hemp products. CBD is not sold as a medicine, although data suggests more than half of users take oils, e-liquids and edibles for health and wellness purposes.

Cannabinoid research is still in its embryonic stages, although we know these compounds function in an archaic biological system called the endocannabinoid system (ECS). However, our understanding of the ECS and CBD’s effects within it is limited, since scientists didn’t even find it until the 1990s.

Due to the stigma around cannabis, barriers to research and funding issues have stifled scientific progress. But with cannabis enjoying a new dawn in many countries, including the US, the research wheels are finally in motion, and we’re learning more about CBD by the week.

Different types of CBD extract

Different types of CBD extract Three different types of CBD extract may be used in CBD e-liquids: CBD-isolate, broad-spectrum CBD, and full-spectrum CBD.

CBD-isolate: This extract is CBD and nothing but CBD. Separating out the CBD from all other hemp compounds is popular with those seeking a pure CBD experience with no danger of popping on a drug test. Some manufacturers mix naturally-occurring terpenes into a CBD-isolate product for flavor and added therapeutic effects.

Full-spectrum CBD: A whole-plant, full-spectrum extract integrates all the cannabinoids, flavonoids, terpenes and plant compounds produced by hemp. This makes for a more complete experience, even though these additional components are only ever present in trace amounts.

Full-plant hemp extracts also allow for the ‘entourage effect’ synergy that embellishes CBD’s effects. However, this does mean accepting a little THC, although never more than the maximum 0.3% permitted by law. Because THC is present, there is a very slim chance of failing a drug test. Full-spectrum vape juices are usually more expensive since they are deemed more effective.

Broad-spectrum CBD: With these extracts, you get the best of both - all the beneficial cannabinoids, without any THC. Eliminating THC altogether means you can sample the effects of a whole-plant extract, with the guarantee of a clean drug test. If CBD-isolate products aren’t cutting it for you but taking THC isn’t an option, broad-spectrum e-liquids are the ideal solution.

3 reasons why vaping is the best way to take CBD

You can eat CBD, drip it under your tongue and even rub it into your skin. So, why would you want to inhale it? Vaping isn’t just for show - here are the main perks.

Efficient delivery

People vape and smoke not just for the flavor, but because it’s the most efficient way of getting CBD into and active in the body. When vaping, the CBD is inhaled immediately into the lungs and passes through the tissues and into the bloodstream in seconds, where it can start having a therapeutic effect.

In contrast, CBD from an edible or capsule doesn’t become active until it’s travelled through the first-pass metabolism and been absorbed by the stomach. This cumbersome process can take 30 minutes or more. Edibles do have other benefits, but for fast relief, they are no match for vaping.

3 reasons why vaping is the best way to take CBD Convenience

On your lunch break and looking for a quick hit? Not got the time to roll up a CBD joint in the mornings. Vaping - and especially with cartridges and disposable pens - could not be more convenient. Vape devices are typically very portable, so you can get on-demand relief wherever you are.

And compared to smoking, vaping is fairly discreet, too. Sure, it still creates clouds of slightly smelly vapor, but the aroma is nowhere near as pungent as from a joint. Vaping is hassle-free and lowkey, and you’ll always be able to get topped up.

Wide variety of products

CBD vaping offers endless choices. We’ve already explored the different CBD extracts, but vape pens and cartridges are often themed, too. Some are marketed for mood, others for relaxation. The difference in effects comes from the terpenes.

Each hemp strain has a unique profile of terpenes, and is classed as a sativa, indica or hybrid. If you’re looking for a specific set of effects, you’re more likely to find it with vaping, since most tincture and edible products rarely have much terpene variety.

But what makes Vape Bright Thrive cartridges so special? The company has recognized that many vapers want to minimize the health risks as much as possible, and has stripped down its vape oil to the bare necessities. Thrive cartridges contain pure CBD-infused vape oil, with no carrier oil, pesticides, solvents or nicotine, and less than 0.3% THC.

Most brands use vegetable glycerin (VG), propylene glycol (PG) or both, but these aren’t actually essential - they just contribute to flavor and vapor production. If you want a cleaner vaping experience that still provides the same, fast-acting relief, get started today with a Vape Bright kit.

cbd oil vape pen starter kitHempleBox Starter Kit

The HempleBox kit also comes with a SmokTech Stick V9 Max, and any one of the brand’s six CBD-isolate e-liquids. HempleBox’s THC-free vape juices are perfect for vapers concerned about drug tests, or any adverse effects from a small concentration of THC.

The ‘Simply’ vape juice is a flavorless additive. ‘Crispy’ is a mixture of cinnamon and vanilla, ‘Juicy’ boasts strawberry and watermelon, ‘Slushy’ combines blue raspberry and pink lemonade, ‘Smoothy’ blends strawberries and bananas, while ‘Loopy’ has a delicious cereal flavor.

All of these vape juices are available in 100mg, 250mg, 500mg and 1000mg strengths. Any flavor and potency combination is available as part of the HempleBox starter kit.

Ki CBD Pod Starter Kit

The Ki is a rival pod vaporizer to the Juul, and has some key differences. The Ki has built on the Juul’s success by following a similar, sleek design, but doubling the pod and battery size to enhance the experience.

Each Ki pod holds 1.6ml of e-liquid, and the battery lasts for twice as long as its competitors. For convenient vaping the Ki - just like the Juul - has auto-draw firing. This means you don’t need to press any buttons when vaping. Just inhale, and the device will activate automatically!

Ki CBD pods are available in two flavors - Green Crack and Gorilla Glue #4 - and contain either 300mg or 600mg of CBD extract. The full-spectrum blend used by Pinnacle Hemp is mostly CBD, but also consists of other cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids. Ki CBD Pods have less than 0.3% THC.

Green Crack (Sativa): Green Crack terpenes are potent and uplifting, and offer a supercharged energy boost. The mental buzz and increased focus and concentration that comes from this e-liquid are great for early in the day, but aren’t well-suited to evening use. Green Crack pairs well with a cup of coffee or any other caffeinated beverages.

Gorilla Glue #4 (Indica): These terpenes balance stimulation with relaxation, although Gorilla Glue #4 is technically classed as an indica. It’s an effective pod for soothing aches and pains all over the body, and should also provide relief from anxiety and mood slumps. Gorilla Glue #4 terpenes are also considered helpful for low appetite, nausea and insomnia.

Each starter kit comes with the Ki device, a USB charger and either a Green Crack or Gorilla Glue #4 pod, in 300 or 600mg strength.

Will CBD vaping improve my health?

Current research is inconclusive but optimistic about CBD’s health benefits. But combined with the positive anecdotes from millions of Americans, there’s a solid chance that CBD could improve your health. While claims that CBD is a cure-all are likely far-fetched, it’s perfectly possible that the compound helps with a range of conditions, because the ECS has such widespread influence.

The science is fascinating, but keep in mind that this blog has been written for educational purposes only, and is not a substitute for medical advice. Consult with a doctor if you are ill, and never attempt to self-medicate with CBD, particularly if you’re already on medication.

Potential physical benefits

America is in the midst of a painkiller crisis with the opioid epidemic. With these drugs proving addictive and deadly, that patients are demanding safer and more sustainable options should come as no surprise. CBD has become a very popular natural pain remedy, but experts are undecided on whether it actually has pain-killing effects.

However, ECS research has shown the system regulates pain sensitivity, and that the primary endocannabinoid anandamide has analgesic effects. As an anandamide reuptake inhibitor, CBD essentially promotes anandamide in the ECS, so more is available to bind with CB1 receptors. This could have a pain-killing effect. CBD and anandamide’s influence on pain-modulating vanilloid (TRPV-1) receptors may also explain any potential benefits.

The efficiency of vaping is more appealing for acute, neuropathic pain than chronic pain, because the former has such a sudden onset of symptoms. CBD may also be effective for inflammatory pain, with research showing that CB2 receptor agonists can send anti-inflammatory messages to the immune system. Hence CBD could reduce arthritis symptoms, and perhaps even facilitate joint cartilage regeneration.

Scientists are also exploring a link between fibromyalgia, migraines and the ECS. Both illnesses are mysterious, with their root causes unclear. But some suspect that both may be at least partially triggered by ECS dysregulation.

The Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency (CED) theory posits that a lack of endocannabinoid production could explain these conditions. Until now, fibromyalgia symptoms - which range from pain to cognitive fog - have baffled researchers because they are seemingly unrelated. But the ECS is a new scientific discovery, and its relationship to fibromyalgia is clearly worthy of further study.

Potential mental benefits

Potential mental benefits We know CBD has an effect on the brain, because the compound successfully passes through the blood-brain barrier. CB1 receptors in the ECS play an intrinsic role in the central nervous system, and these receptors are expressed in several key brain regions, such as the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex.

Surveys of CBD users show people take products for depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and more. Research also suggests CBD may help with psychosis and schizophrenia, while causing fewer side effects than existing antipsychotics.

It’s feasible that CBD has antidepressant effects, going by our ECS understanding. Anandamide has antidepressant properties, and the ECS - and specifically CB1 receptors - is involved with mood modulation. Pioneering researchers have theorized that reducing inflammation on the brain may tackle long-term depressive symptoms, and have more sustained effects. CBD has well-documented antidepressant properties.

CBD vaping could have a big future as an anxiety remedy. The anti-anxiety effects of CBD have been shown in a placebo-controlled simulation, where anxiety sufferers took part in a public speaking test. Pharmacological research has highlighted boosting GABA neurotransmitters as one area where CBD may have an anti-anxiety effect. Logically, vaping would work better than other intake methods for acute anxiety, because of the rapid relief.

Psychosis and schizophrenia are serious mental conditions - currently, we have sub-par treatments for both. But CBD has demonstrated antipsychotic effects as a CB1 receptor antagonist. This is the same receptor that psychoactive THC binds to. Studies suggest an increase in psychosis and schizophrenia cases due to high-THC cannabis strains, another sign of CBD’s antipsychotic properties.

Does vaping CBD oil relax you?

CBD vape oil has a relaxing effect, with these benefits particularly noticeable with higher dosages. This mental and physical calm is good for stress, anxiety and physical aches and pains. Lower CBD dosages are more associated with wakefulness, but shouldn’t leave you feeling jittery. Vaping’s speedy response time works a treat when you need rapid relaxation.

Does CBD vape juice get you high?

No, CBD vape juice does not have a psychoactive effect. CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid. The other compounds in hemp are also non-intoxicating. THC is the exception - this cannabinoid may be found in full-spectrum e-liquids, albeit only in minimal amounts.

Federal law states that all CBD products, including vape juices, must have less than 0.3% THC, thereby preventing any psychoactive effects.

How does CBD e-liquid make you feel? How does CBD e-liquid make you feel?

In general, CBD e-liquid promotes calm and wellbeing as it regulates your ECS. Larger doses bring out more pronounced sedative effects. Meanwhile, lower doses are notably more energizing, and great for enhanced focus and concentration. It's like a non-addictive version of caffeine and nicotine.

CBD doesn’t have the reality-twisting effects of THC. Nor does it cause anxiety, paranoia or induce euphoric effects. CBD’s purpose is to leave you feeling relaxed and in control, and is not comparable to recreational drugs, even though it technically comes from cannabis!

Is CBD oil addictive?

No, research has consistently found that CBD does not have addictive effects. CBD does not cause desensitization of cannabinoid receptors, something which has been attributed to THC. Nor does CBD rewire the brain like other addictive drugs to make you crave more of the substance. Long-term and regular CBD users may feel a mental attachment to CBD vaping, but stopping won’t cause any physical withdrawal symptoms.

CBD might even help in the fight against addiction. Research suggests CBD could ease withdrawal symptoms, and modulate mu-opioid receptors to reduce the pleasure associated with addictive drugs. This research is still in its infancy, but a placebo-controlled study showed taking CBD via inhaler could reduce tobacco cigarette smoking.

Is hemp oil the same as CBD oil?

Some companies use the words hemp oil and CBD oil interchangeably, which can make things a little confusing. Legal CBD oil must come from hemp, but not all hemp oil contains CBD in any significant amount.

When looking for CBD, beware of cheap “hemp oil” products, even if they claim to have “full-spectrum” hemp. If you can’t see a specified amount of CBD on the packaging or in the product description, it probably doesn’t have any. Simple hemp still has therapeutic value with lots of useful compounds, but not to the same extent as CBD.

What happens if you vape too much CBD?

There are no serious risks to vaping more CBD than intended. You can’t overdose on CBD - the cannabinoid has an incredibly low toxicity, and is safe even if taking more than 1000mg at once.

A strong, vaporized CBD dose will probably make you really relaxed and sleepy, though. Drowsiness and dizziness are two potential CBD side effects, so if you have overdone it with vaping, take a few hours to rest.

Can I mix CBD oil with vape juice?

Mixing CBD vape oil with other e-liquids is possible, but not CBD tincture oils. The latter will likely have ingredients that aren’t safe for vaping, and could be a health risk. We’ve already discussed the dangers of vaping things you aren’t supposed to!

However, you can enjoy CBD vape oils and e-liquids under the tongue, in the same way you would a tincture. The CBD in hemp-derived products has already been heated and activated before it’s added to the end product, and doesn’t need reheating to deliver the effects.

So, if you’re on a flight, public transport or any other place where vaping is a no-no, you don’t have to go without!

Is vaping CBD better than drops?

This all depends on what you want from your CBD experience. If you need fast relief at all costs, vaping is definitely better, because inhalation is more efficient than the sublingual absorption from tinctures. Vaping is also more flavorful and relaxing than oils and drops, which can be notorious for having an overpowering hemp taste.

But vaping does have two notable drawbacks. One, it’s not completely safe, and if you’re looking to improve your health with CBD, jeopardizing it - if only a little - may seem counterproductively. And secondly, you can’t vape everywhere, either due to regulations or because you don’t want to make a smell!

In a nutshell, CBD e-liquids and drops both have distinct advantages. It’s not a question of which is better overall, but which is best in various situations.

What drugs should not be taken with CBD?What drugs should not be taken with CBD?

Concerns about taking CBD with several prescription drugs are well-founded. Research shows that CBD blocks enzymes in the cytochrome P450 system. Unfortunately, these enzymes metabolize and remove several different drugs from the body.

Deactivating them interferes with the metabolization process, and affects how long a drug remains active for. Worst-case scenario, this could lead to an overdose, as you’d be topping up levels of a drug more quickly than the body can remove them.

Drugs CBD may interfere with include: antibiotics, antidepressants, antihistamines, antipsychotics, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, prokinetics, HIV antivirals and steroids.

You may still be able to take CBD, but always err on the side of caution. Ask your doctor if it’s safe to take CBD with your current prescription plan - they may suggest waiting until your treatment has finished, or give you a revised dose. Never attempt to self-medicate or adjust your prescription without consulting a doctor.
