There are a lot of forms of THC on the market. Here’s an introduction to THC liquid and what makes the tincture so special.

THC

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is a cannabinoid found in the Cannabis sativa plant. It is only one out of hundreds of these active substances contained in the plant’s parts. But THC is arguably the most widely known, along with cannabidiol (CBD).

THC is a psychoactive substance that produces the high, which makes marijuana so popular. This acts on the endocannabinoid receptors in our central nervous system, which plays a role in pain regulation and mood.

As a result, THC is often used as a pain relief alternative and a mood booster. Unfortunately, the role of THC as a medical remedy for pain has not yet been adequately studied to confirm these claims. Nonetheless, a lot of users take it regularly to lessen the discomfort of moderate to severe pain.

THC is often used for recreational purposes and is known to induce hallucinations and impair normal cognitive and sensory functions during use. This is why federal laws still don’t permit its use, distribution, and production until the present.

However, many states have legalized its use under specific conditions that differ from state to state.

THC Liquid

Liquid THC is a potent cannabis product created from an extraction process involving the flowers and leaves of the Cannabis sativa. The parts used are not limited to these two, as other plant parts may also be used.

After extraction, the weed in liquid form is stored in bottles and sold as it is or as vape juice. Commercially processed tinctures or juices can contain up to 95% THC, compared to smoking the dry flower, which can have a maximum of 25%.

Aside from versatility, this potency is another thing that makes liquid pot so marketable. Tinctures made at home have varying THC levels depending on the period of steeping.

How Does THC Liquid Work

The tincture is known by many names: liquid marijuanas drops, weed in liquid form, green dragon, liquid cannabis, and more.

All these names refer to the same classic product that has been in use since ancient times. Even before vape pens and cartridges, pills and gummies started to gain popularity.

Compared to edible gummies or brownies and dried flowers, liquid THC acts faster because it is absorbed through the thin membranes inside our mouths. Therefore, it does not need to pass through the gastrointestinal system before being absorbed in the intestine, which could take hours.

Types of THC Liquid

Two common types of THC liquid can be purchased. The first one is the THC-only liquid which contains nothing else other than THC itself.

This type has no other cannabinoids, flavonoids, essential oils, or terpenes in it and is usually more potent.

The second type is the THC-CBD which contains other cannabinoids like CBD. This results in milder effects and can help prevent high tolerance.

Cannabis tincture is a product widely available from reputable online stores that sell hemp products. It is still best to buy THC oil drops from reputable companies but making your own THC drops for food or other uses is still on the table.

Here are the ingredients and the steps you need to follow to make your weed drops. Remember that the final product cannot be used for vaping or inhalation as it contains alcohol.

Ingredients

  • Cannabis

  • High-proof neutral alcohol (not isopropyl rubbing alcohol)

  • Scissors, knife, or grinder

  • Baking pan

  • Baking sheet

  • Glass jar

  • Cheesecloth

  • Saucepan

  • Thermometer

Grind and Bake

Make sure the appliances you are going to use are in good condition. Set the oven to preheat at 240°F. Make sure the cannabis is not exposed to any temperature above this. Start to grind the cannabis into grain-sized pieces.

Line the baking pan with the sheet and scatter the ground cannabis evenly. Place inside the oven for 30-40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes to get all sides. When it looks light brown and toasted, remove it from the oven and wait until it cools.

Steep and Shake

Place the cannabis inside a jar and pour in the high-proof neutral alcohol. Make sure the alcohol is enough to cover all the roasted cannabis to ensure good-quality steeping.

Close the jar tightly and choose a dry and dark spot where it can be left to steep for multiple weeks out of reach of any children. Shake the jar once a day.

The longer you steep it, the more potent it becomes. Once you are ready, open the jar and strain the contents thoroughly with cheesecloth. Store the liquid THC in another airtight container after extraction.

Hot and Cold Method

Besides the room temperature method used above, you can also use either the hot or cold method.

For the hot method, simmer the contents of the jar in a saucepan at a maximum of 76°C. Use the thermometer as a guide for when to increase or decrease the heat. Cool the mixture and strain as instructed above. Store.

For the cool method, freeze the jar contents for about 7 days, shaking every day to ensure the evenness of the mixture. Strain with a cheesecloth and store accordingly.

How to Consume Liquid Cannabis?

There are several ways you can consume liquid cannabis, depending on your preference. Here are four methods commonly used today.

Vaping or Inhalation

There are THC drops that can be used as vape juice with vape pens, e-vaporizers, or mods. Inhalation provides almost instant effects similar to when you smoke pot. And since the vapor is created at a lower temperature compared to smoking, the cannabinoids are retained.

Vaping also produces no foul odor and is more discreet than smoking.

Concerning its relative influence on the lungs, long-term results have not been studied adequately as of the moment. Therefore, it’s best to pause and reevaluate how either vaping or smoking will affect your health.

Sublingual Method

You can take pure THC liquid with a dropper that can deliver THC droplets under the tongue. The thin membranes inside the mouth can quickly absorb the weed drops and bring effects within minutes.

It acts much faster compared to swallowing THC droplets because it bypasses the stomach and intestines, a route that could take hours before liquid pot effects manifest.

Edibles

You can also use THC oil drops for food. Add it to baked goods or meals for seamless consumption. THC liquid for food is ready for instant use, unlike cannabis flowers which require a long preparation process that involves incorporating it with carrier fats.

Add your THC drops to your breakfast smoothies, pasta sauces, or afternoon drinks for a relaxing pot session. Just remember to use low heat to prevent the THC from burning off. You’d also have to wait a few hours for the THC drops for food to take effect after swallowing.

Topical

One of the less popular routes to consuming THC bottle liquids is through the skin. It can be applied to areas where there is local inflammation or irritation. You won’t feel the high, but it is quite effective as an anti-inflammatory agent.

Dosage Information

Compared to smoking pot, you have more control over the dosage you take with weed drops. Take note of the following dosage information to ensure a safe THC session, whether you’re a beginner or veteran THC consumer.

Microdosing (5 mg) - Beginners should start with a microdose of 5 mg. This produces no adverse effects and elevates mood, improves focus, and brings no high.

Happy dosing (20-30 mg) - If you’re a bit more used to the feeling of taking pure THC liquid, you can increase your dose to around 20-30 mg for a pleasant high with no major cognitive or perceptual alterations.

Seasoned dosing (50 mg) - For the hardcore potheads, experience an extra high with 50 mg of liquid cannabis.

Strong dosing (100 mg) - Only take this much if you are already an experienced macro doser with high tolerance to THC.

How to Store Liquid Marijuana?

After purchasing liquid cannabis or making your own THC drops at home, make sure to store them in a dropper bottle made of amber glass or opaque brown or green material. Place the THC bottle in a cool and dry area away from sunlight.

Liquid marijuanas drops can degrade when exposed to high heat, strong light, and air. So it is best to manage its storage carefully, so you get the most out of your product.

What Are The Benefits and Effects of Liquid THC Drops?

An array of therapeutic and recreational benefits await someone who is yet to try THC drops. Do note that none of these have been scientifically proven, as research on THC is not yet adequate. Its effects and benefits have been detailed by its regular users.

Benefits

Milder on the lungs

THC drops are not smoked and contain no nicotine like tobacco or smoked pot. There is then less lung involvement and buildup of tar and other harmful chemicals in the lungs.

However, this may only apply to swallowing THC liquid as vaping has not been proven to be entirely better than smoking in the long run.

Quick effects

The effects of liquid pot can be felt after a few minutes when vaped or taken sublingually. This ensures a stress-free pot session with no wait.

It is especially beneficial for those using THC drops as an adjunct for pain relief due to its quick action on the endocannabinoid system, which has a role in pain sensitivity.

Controlled Dosing

It is hard to control THC dosage when one consumes pot through smoking. However, with liquid THC, controlled doses can be taken through the bottle dropper, enabling careful consumption and monitoring.

Discreet

THC liquid for food has a very mild scent and can be consumed orally. Even vaping produces a less odorous cloud of vapor compared to smoking, so there are fewer chances you’ll draw attention to yourself.

We learned about the topical application of THC liquid above, along with the more common routes of THC consumption. Aside from this, THC could bring anti-inflammatory and analgesic benefits and can be prepared with food, drinks, and other treats.

Just make sure to stay under 240°F when using heat with THC and store the product right to keep it potent for its many uses.

Side Effects

Taking too much THC can result in anxiety and paranoia. Taking THC-CBD tinctures can counter this due to a milder THC content.

If one stops taking THC abruptly, they may experience withdrawal symptoms involving cognition and coordination. In addition, people with previous mental health conditions may have intensified psychosis or schizophrenia symptoms.
